Weapons and Auxiliary Training

Most Americans are not aware that Tai Chi Chuan was and is a martial art. Not only is Tai Chi a martial art it is a very effective martial art. Most people see Tai Chi being practiced very slow and meditative, they don't always see the whole picture.
Weapons and push hands training are other aspects of Tai Chi training that helps to develop the internal power. This power is the reason Tai Chi Chuan is a very effective martial art as well as a healing art.
  • Weapons

I teach the Tai Chi Chuan strait sword as well as the Tai Chi Chuan fan. The Tai Chi sword is the most common Tai Chi weapon, and I was taught that if you intend to train in the Tai Chi weapons you should at least train in the sword. I teach the original Yang style 64 movement sword form.
Studying the sword is great for keeping the old traditions alive, and connecting us with the masters of long ago. In the old days, learning the sword was a necessity. Now, it is used for a variety of reasons, from holding on to tradition, competition, improving body/mind connection, and expanding your Tai Chi knowledge.
If you are interested in a traditional form this is could be the form for you. Anyone interested in studying the sword should be proficient in the Yang style empty hand form.

The Tai Chi fan form is a beautiful form that is great for almost anyone. It gives you an other dimension of training without wielding a weapon that might intimidate others. It is also not very heavy at all which may make it more appealing to some. The fan form is very fun to learn, as well as, fun to watch.

Push Hands

Push hands is a staple for anyone wanting to expand their Tai Chi knowledge, as well as, developing their chi, sensitivity, and learning the martial aspect of the internal martial arts.

Push hands is a two person practice. Two people square off, and only using minimum force, to learn how to deal with an on coming attack.
There are several forms of push hands so, practice is always changing and keeps you learning and growing.
